Dulux Trade Supermatt is the go-to contract emulsion for decorators tackling fresh plaster, drywall or any high-porosity surface that needs to breathe while it dries. Its water-based, low-odour formulation means you can prime and finish in one go without lingering paint smells—ideal for new-build handovers, schools, healthcare settings or domestic refurbishments where downtime must be kept to a minimum. Supermatt’s high opacity helps you achieve a bright, uniform white in fewer coats, even over patchy plaster or joint compound, so walls and ceilings look pristine with less labour. Because the film remains micro-porous, residual moisture can escape naturally, reducing the risk of hairline cracking or peeling later on. We stock Supermatt in 5 L, 10 L and a cost-saving 12 L trade tub—perfect for large projects where colour consistency is essential. Whether you’re mist-coating bare plaster, tidying rental properties or completing snag-list touch-ups, Dulux Trade Supermatt delivers reliable, professional results time after time.

Preparation

Begin by ensuring all surfaces are dry, firm and free from dust, grease or efflorescence. New plaster should appear uniformly pale pink before coating; any dark, damp patches indicate residual moisture—wait until fully dry. Lightly sand shiny or sealed areas to create a key, then remove sanding residue. Fill cracks and holes with an appropriate filler, allow to dry, and spot-prime repaired areas. Highly porous or powdery surfaces need stabilising with a proprietary sealer. On fresh plaster, thin the first coat of Supermatt with up to 10 % clean water to form a mist coat; this binds loose particles and evens out suction for a consistent finish. Protect floors, radiators and trim with dustsheets and masking tape before you start painting.

Application

Stir the paint thoroughly with a broad stirrer. For walls and ceilings, apply two full coats using a medium-pile roller. Cut in edges with a quality synthetic brush, then roll out to maintain a wet edge and avoid picture-framing. Large ceilings can be finished quickly with an airless sprayer—thin with up to 10 % clean water if required. Protect skirting and architraves using professional masking tape, removing the tape while the paint is still slightly tacky for the sharpest lines. Touch-dry in around one hour; allow roughly four hours before recoating under normal conditions (20 °C, 65 % RH).

Cleaning and Storage

Clean brushes, rollers and spray equipment immediately after use with warm soapy water. Wipe excess paint from the tin rim, refit the lid firmly and store the container upright in a cool, frost-free place.

FAQs

Is Supermatt suitable as a final finish?
Yes—although designed for new plaster, many decorators leave Supermatt as the topcoat in low-traffic areas.

Can I use it in bathrooms?
It is breathable but not moisture-repellent; once plaster is fully dry, over-coat with a moisture-resistant paint for areas subject to condensation.

Do I need to thin for rolling?
No—apply straight from the tin for roller work; thin only for a mist coat or spray application.
